Becoming a Florida Department of Corrections Volunteer

Interested in providing hands-on support to people in the Florida correctional system? Follow the steps below to become a certified volunteer.

1. Apply to Volunteer

2. Get Fingerprinted

  • Check for received email prompting you to make an appointment to get fingerprinted
  • Call facility and make appointment for fingerprints
  • Get fingerprinted using the ORI# FL037H75C

3. Complete Training

  • Wait to receive training email (Click on link in the email.)
  • Email Volunteer Services for Training username and password

4. Contact Facility to Receive PIN

Complete the following components of online training in the following order:

  1. Volunteer training manual
  2. Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS)
    • Use your training user name and password information here.
    • When complete, you will receive a certificate.
  3. Entrance and exit procedures
  4. HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)
  5. PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act)

5. Make a big impact!

Once you have completed your training, contact the Assistant Warden of Programs or Chaplain depending on the volunteering area you selected, and the facility you have selected.

You will then receive a PIN to use with FDC for your volunteer engagements.
